If planning a summer euro trip, you can easily book tickets for as low as 200-300 euros during the high season. A round trip can sometimes be cheaper, depending on the time of year and availability of flights.

Once you arrive at Pisa Airport, the best way to reach Cinque Terre is by train. We took a direct train from Pisa Centrale to La Spezia, a city that serves as the main gateway to the five villages. The train was modern and had AC, and the ticket cost only 11 euros. You can buy your ticket at the station kiosk, which is straightforward. In just 1.5-2 hours, we reached La Spezia, ready to begin our adventure.

This city is well-connected, making exploring all five picturesque towns easy—Monterosso al Mare, Vernazza, Corniglia, Manarola, and Riomaggiore. Unlike the famous villages, La Spezia offers more accommodation choices at better prices. A quick train ride of just 7 min takes you to the first village, making it a convenient base. The train runs frequently, allowing you to hop between the towns without hassle. During our trip, we stayed at Villa Marcela in La Spezia, and it was a fantastic experience. The room was modern, spacious, and clean, and the hosts were excellent, making us feel at home. The villa had a beautiful garden with lemons and a relaxing pool—a perfect retreat after exploring. Whether you prefer hotels or apartments, plenty of dining options are nearby to enjoy delicious Italian cuisine.

This is the perfect season for exploring the beautiful coastline, hiking trails, and enjoying the sea. We traveled in July, which was part of the busy season, but we still found affordable flights, hotels, and trains. While popular spots can get crowded, the vibrant atmosphere makes up for it, and the lively streets add to the experience. If you prefer a quieter trip, the shoulder season in September is ideal. The weather is still pleasant, with a lower chance of rain, and the tourist rush starts to fade. This allows for a more relaxed experience while still enjoying the beauty of Cinque Terre. We spent most of our time in Riomaggiore, and it was one of the most breathtaking parts of our trip. As soon as we arrived, we started our adventure by heading straight to one of the best viewpoints, where we enjoyed a stunning sunset view. We spent a whole day here, walking along the seaside promenade, exploring plenty of shops, and trying delicious seafood at one of the many restaurants. The peaceful atmosphere and breathtaking views made it one of our favorite places in Cinque Terre. For those who want to relax, renting lounge chairs and an umbrella is a great option. The cost is around 40-50 euros, but it is worth it for a comfortable day by the sea. Whether sunbathing, swimming in crystal-clear waters, or enjoying the ocean breeze, Monterosso al Mare offers an unforgettable experience.

As we wandered through its charming streets, we couldn’t help but admire the colorful red and orange houses lining the cliffs. We visited this beautiful place at sunset, and the sight was terrific. The golden light reflected off the calm waters, creating a magical experience. Manarola never fails to impress, whether you’re here for a short visit or spending the evening by the sea.

Corniglia

Corniglia is the only village in Cinque Terre without direct sea access, making it unique compared to the other coastal towns. Instead, it is perched high in the mountains, offering breathtaking views of the surrounding landscape. Visitors must take a train to the station and prepare for a steep, lengthy walk to the village. The climb may be challenging, but those who make the effort are rewarded with stunning scenery and a peaceful atmosphere.  Although we didn’t have enough time to stop here during our trip, I have added Corniglia to my bucket list for future trips to Italy. Wandering through its quiet streets and experiencing its mountain charm makes it a must-see destination. Whether you enjoy scenic hikes or want to escape the crowds, this village offers a different side of Cinque Terre worth exploring.
